i've been away, poem (2009)
i've been away, poem
i've been offline
typing away in a foreign language
without your innocent sweet-talking rhyme
i've been sinking in car seats
and loose leather chairs
behind desks of all sorts
up steep metal stairs
now, on a quiet morning
after valentine's day
i'm bruised up and sober
but i'm back, poem, to stay
i could've downed a few beers
with a floozy over cake and tea
but i went to bed early
wondering if you were waiting for me
without easy answers
and the same miserable style
i'm foot and knee, sinking
with a three year old's smile
