a low chuckle from the sky (2007)
i'm floating alone
across the ocean
to a low chuckle from the sky
back to where i was born
close behind follows a storm
with female heads
most with horns
screaming, eroding into skulls
in the distance, up ahead
is a drowning lady head
smoking a long cigarette
"hello" i say, "am i intruding?"
her skin is pale
tongue is white
eyes red and earrings bright
and to another man perhaps
she would seem dead or dying
but to me she is electrifying
the seagulls bombed us
through the long night
and dolphins chewed us
till my legs went numb
and blood from deep inside
came rushing out
she told me of where she was from
and where she was going, all alone
and how she'd seen a thousand faces
but mine was somehow most properly arranged
i must have been deranged
i dared to kiss her
and the next day i missed her
up and down on the waves.
i wouldn't get home for days
across the ocean
to a low chuckle from the sky
back to where i was born
close behind follows a storm
with female heads
most with horns
screaming, eroding into skulls
in the distance, up ahead
is a drowning lady head
smoking a long cigarette
"hello" i say, "am i intruding?"
